China Cosplay started in 1995, “Video Game Software” magazine published in Japan Cosplay which caused the youth’s interest, and the behavior of imitating anime role specially appeared began in China. Cosplay in Shanghai began in 2000, some people who have the same interests got together. Then some COS organization formed and the development scale has been larger and larger. More and more people involved in, Cosplay has become young people’s important fashion. Currently, the largest and most influential popular Cosplay organization in Shanghai is the Cosplay Kingdom.

Cosplay kingdom found in 2001, the sponsor was a student who had a net name MINAKO. She started to organize COS activity in the summer of her twelfth grade. She regularly carried out location filming or held some gatherings. She also organized companion to go comics fair and animation display. MINAKO had never deliberately made some propaganda, but gradually attracted a number of enthusiasts. In those participants, the oldest was about 26 years old and the youngest was only 12, mostly are female. On September 2001, to facilitate contact in members, MINAKO set up a professional Cosplay Sale website, and the content has become richer and richer. It has become a COS organization that has the largest registered membership and the greatest impact in Shanghai. So far October 2003, there were 7655 registered members.

If shooting a static outdoor scene, then they do not need to rehearse; if performing on the stage of an anime expo or Cosplay show, they must repeatedly rehearse. For the characters to imitate, the goal of every Cosplayer is a unity of form and spirit, that is, not just similar in Cosplay Costumes or models, but also read the comics, or conquer the game to fully understand the character, and then threw themselves into the role.
